HISTORY
Founded on the Tar and Pamlico Rivers in 1776, Washington, NC lays claim to the distinction of being the first American community named after our first president. Its riverfront setting was responsible for the town's growth as a commercial port. Goods arrived at riverfront warehouses from as far away as Europe and the West Indies. Washington hasn't lost its historic charm. The community remains heavily invested in its future while preserving the beauty of its past.
