Washington's future is built on a commitment to preserving its past. And no part of that past has a richer tradition than the arts. The Beaufort County Arts Council is one of the oldest and one of the most active in the state. Throughout the year, the calendar is filled with festivals, crafts shows and music. One of the most popular new additions has been "Music in the Streets," where monthly performances invite families to enjoy everything from chamber music, bluegrass and beach music to barbershop quartets. And the Turnage Theater, originally featuring vaudeville acts and silent films, is in the process of being revitalized and in collaboration with the ECU School of the Arts, will bring live theatre back to downtown Washington.
